The Wheaton Park District prides itself on providing opportunities for everyone. The Travel Basketball program is another effort to do so. This program provides an opportunity for players to take their skills to the next level. Hosting tournaments allows our teams to play competitively in a familiar setting.
Volunteer Coaches Help Keep Costs Down
We are fortunate to have very knowledgeable volunteer coaches, we appreciate the time they donate to help with the program. By these coaches volunteering, we are able to keep the cost of the program down, passing on the savings to our program participants. The coaches help players develop their individual skills while focusing on the team as a whole. Every minute of practice time is valuable, so we ask parents to approach coaches before or after practice with questions, not during. Practices are open and parents are encouraged to attend. We ask that parents let the coaches do the coaching and avoid coaching from the sidelines.
Practices/Games
Teams will practice twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes each practice. Depending on the age level, teams will play between 30-50 games during a season. The older the kids, the more games they will play. Teams will play home and away games, and participate in leagues and tournaments. Games and tournaments are usually on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some teams will have the occasional game during the week.
